Contract Project Engineer

We are looking for a Project Engineer, with a background in thermal systems and pressurised equipment to join the team for a 3-6 month period. The role will be home based, with 1 day a week at our site in Bridgend, and occasional travel required for client visits.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on R&D projects and be able to apply sound engineering judgement and expertise to engineering problems. The candidate will need to consult closely with clients on contracts and be confident conversing and joining meetings. The role involves preparing engineering procedures and reports based around the R&D contracts and project management of the manufacture of prototypes/demonstrator pieces.

Overview of Key Tasks

  • Participate and engage with clients in workshops to brainstorm and agree ways forward for R&D projects (focus on new and existing thermal technology and feasibility for manufacturing).
  • Participate and engage in design reviews (focus on new and existing thermal technology and feasibility for manufacturing).
  • Prepare key reports and engineering procedures that shall be used for manufacturing and testing prototypes/demonstrators identified by R&D.
  • Identify and engage sub-contractors that can provide manufacturing and testing services for prototype/demonstrators.
  • Coordinate the manufacture of prototypes/demonstrators by dealing directly with Vessco’s manufacturing and inspection departments (plus any sub-contractors).
  • Work within and take responsibility for the agreed project schedules.
  • Conduct final reporting after the R&D phase is complete.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of thermal systems/equipment is essential. A sound understanding of manufacturing techniques and welding is needed with some experience in pressurised systems.
  • Experience working on R&D projects.
  • Experience with report writing.
  • 3D CAD experience.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems including ISO9001.
  • Preferably the candidate will hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering or scientific subject (PhD even more desirable), but this is not essential..

Pay: £30.00-£35.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
